A Child Protection Policy outlines safeguarding measures designed to protect children from harm and abuse. It also establishes guidelines on appropriate behavior when working with children and ensures their safety in all interactions.
Niue Chamber of Commerce staff recently participated in a “Training of Trainers” session on Child Protection Policy. As an organization that mentors and supports young people, we recognize our responsibility to uphold their safety and well-being in all our programs and engagements.
The training covered several key aspects of the policy, including its significance, definitions of important concepts such as child protection, recruitment, education, training and awareness, appropriate interactions with children, misconduct, reporting procedures, and incident management.
Having a Child Protection Policy is essential for our work, particularly as we mentor and tutor students through the Niue Junior and Niue Young Entrepreneurial programs. These initiatives engage Year 5 and 6 students at Niue Primary School and Year 10 students at Niue High School. As mentors, tutors, and responsible adults, we have both a legal and moral duty to ensure a safe learning environment, free from harm, particularly within classroom settings.
By undergoing this training, we strengthen our commitment to safeguarding children and upholding best practices in all our youth-focused programs.
