Description
Conservation
To Treasure Whales · Protect Nature · Empower Communities & Ocean Stewards
Protecting marine mammals, restoring ecosystems, preserving Indigenous knowledge, and inspiring Pacific communities through culture, science and conservation.
One of Niue’s longest-standing conservation organisations
Founded in 2004 by Fiafia Rex, Oma Tafuā began as a volunteer initiative dedicated to protecting Niue’s humpback whales. Since then, it has grown into a nationally and regionally recognised organisation leading community-based conservation, marine mammal research, Indigenous knowledge revitalisation, environmental education, climate resilience, women’s leadership and nature-based solutions.
Today, Oma Tafuā works alongside communities, government, regional organisations, researchers, youth, elders, women, villages and international partners to help protect the Pacific’s natural and cultural heritage for future generations.
